Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum is designed to:

  • Recognise children's prior learning
  • Provide first-hand learning experiences
  • Develop interpersonal skills
  • Promote high aspirations
  • Build resilience
  • Encourage creativity
  • Develop critical thinkers

A golden thread running through our curriculum is communication: we recognise communication as being low on entry to school, so we value and promote communication at all opportunities.

We:

  • Recognise every child as a unique individual, celebrating and welcoming differences within our school community, treating all with equity
  • Make the curriculum accessible to all children, including those with disabilities or special educational needs.
  • Ensure that no discrimination is tolerated, pupils learn about protected characteristics and that everyone has access to the curriculum.
  • Provide enhancement ‘wow’ opportunities to engage in learning as we believe childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, with no limits to curiosity and a thirst for new experiences.
  • Create positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
  • Promote physical health and wellbeing with access to a variety of clubs after school and during lunchtime, and provision for high quality sporting activities and competitions.
  • Including community involvement as an integral part of our curriculum, inviting families and visitors to facilitate learning new skills and sharing experiences such as assemblies and curriculum outcomes throughout the year.
  • Strive to ensure children leave school with a sense of belonging to a community where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
