    Safeguarding

At Whaley Thorns Primary School we all work incredibly hard to make sure our school is a welcoming place for the whole school community, where children's wellbeing, mental health and safety are our top priorities. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Butcher and Mrs Crook is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Nicola Rees is the Safeguarding Manager at TEAM Education Trust.

Whaley Thorns Primary School has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues.

    • All staff are trained at a level appropriate to their safeguarding responsibilities:
    • All staff and governors receive annual safeguarding training to remind them of their responsibilities and ensure safeguarding protocols are followed.
    • Designated and Deputy designated Safeguarding Leads attend more specific training.
    • All staff are trained in basic first aid and a further four members of staff are trained specifically in paediatric first aid. We also have a Forest School First Aider on staff.
    • Our anti-bullying committee and Peer Listeners, are trained in active listening. They know what issues they can deal with themselves and what issues they must report.

To provide a safe environment for our children, our selection and recruitment processes include all statutory checks on staff, governors and regular volunteers including enhanced DBS, (disclosure and barring service), checks. Mrs Butcher and Mr Wormall, (our Safeguarding Link Governor), are trained in the safer recruitment of staff.

Please feel free to bring any concerns relating to the safety and well-being of our children to any of these members of staff.
